Eternal Light Peace Memorial
The Eternal Light Peace Memorial is a 1938 Gettysburg Battlefield monument commemorating the 1913 Gettysburg reunion for the fiftieth anniversary of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. A natural gas flame sits on the tower. The memorial was dedicated by Franklin Roosevelt for the Gettysburg Battle’s 75th Anniversary. John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie visited for the 100th Anniversary in 1963, and the monument was Jackie’s inspiration for Kennedy’s Eternal Flame at Arlington National Cemetery.
